My rain forest Artifact

                      My Rain Forest Artifact

Totara hub was learning about the Olympics. we sent an email to our colour group teacher saying which topic we would like to study I chose the Amazon rain forest because it is a big part of Rio ,Brazil where the 2016 Olympics took place. We collected lots of information from readings, books and a little help from they internet  to create a report. When we read the information we identified the key words and used the key words to write our own sentences. The report was the biggest challenge for me because it was hard to put the information into it so it was easy for the reader to enjoy and learn from .After I finished my long report about the Amazon rain forest I was ready to start my Artifact.

My idea was to make a 3D rain forest in a box. I found a big card board box that I painted lime green on the outside walls. The teacher cut one side of the box so you could look through .Next I painted the bottom with a sponge to make a dirt effect and with a metallic blue painted a river running through the middle.

Courtney McGregor

This week in Totara hub we are learning about the Olympics. One of our learning experiences was to make a slide about a New Zealand athlete competing in the Rio Olympics. I chose to study about Courtney McGregor as she has inspired me to never give up. I liked doing this task because I  got to fit lots of information into this slide. I am proud of this learning because at first I didn't now anything about Courtney and now I do.
Something that challenged me was finding the little mistakes. The muscle I was stretching was my noticing muscle because I had find little mistakes.
If I had to change something in this task it would probably be to right write another slide, possibly about her coaches and her friends that competed.
The learning muscle I used to get out of the pit was revising muscle because I needed to work harder at my work.

Wig Wednesday

On Wednesday Parkvale School decided to have wig Wednesday to support the cancer society. Every student got to make or buy a wig to support those who have cancer. We had a great time creating our funky wigs and enjoyed taking photos with the class we all worked together like a whanau. My buitful(beautiful) wig had long curls with pink and purple patterns on it. I am glad we had wig Wednesday because we were  not only helping people we also had lots of fun creating these awesome wigs. First you cut some peices of paper then you clue them on and keep gluing.
This is me and my friends cutting strips of paper

This is me helping my buddy to finish her wig

Matariki

We have been learning about the seven sisters  in other words matariki.
We discovered that the real meaning  of matariki is a maori new year when they get together ,have kai and celebrate .

We celebrated by
getting together in home room 4 .Then some people went and got our visitors  to help. We went through the rules before we headed off. I was creating a  beautiful kite with toi toi. It was a fun experience .Something that challenged me  was weaving the flax underneath the kite. It took  us quite a while to get the hang of it. We decided to do ours a bit different . Instead of weaving our flax's on top we weaved it under . Our kite wasn't  about the looks it was more about how it flew.  In the end  we did't get to fly it  because it was more of a decoration and it would wreck our kite.

Something I enjoyed about doing this is adding all the ingredients. I am proud of my work because I  got to work with lots of people and have  fun with them in my new class. Something I found hard was smashing the ice because it was so cold.

Something I learnt when writing instructions was how to write my hook and how to start a sentence with verbs.

Art

I am learning how to blend my colors with out  using my fingers I use my fingers a lot and find it hard to not use them in art especially art. I love my art because it looks real and like I am in the photo. My favorite part about this art is that I get to shade all types of the colors. I enjoy art a lot so for me it is pretty fun I found it easy er(easier) when I used the white it helped me blend my colors together. Something that has challenged me is trying not to ues my fingers I am very proud of my work because i did an awesome job  on my hills and river. You have to have a vanishing point because other wise it will not look like the river has disapeared you want the river to disappear or it wont look like its going in the distance.

Perimeter

I am learning about perimeter in maths what I did was I drew a shape and put the measurements on the outside. I liked working them out because I got to use timetables and learn new ways to work out the question. How I worked it out is I made sure that I had the sign that said each square=2, then I did 2 times 13 =26 put a circle around it so you don’t forget it at the end, then I did 2 times 12 =24 +26=50 that was my example.
